Brandon, City in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, on the Assiniboine River. Brandon is Manitoba's second largest city after Winnipeg. The community is named after Brandon House, a trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company that was built nearby in 1793. Brandon incorporated as a city in 1882. Located on the Canadian Pacific Railway, Brandon soon became the regional center. The city has hosted several sports competitions, including the Canada Summer Games in 1997. In 1999 the Riverbank Discovery Center, a tourist center, opened in the city.
