Washington's Spring Means Cherry Blossoms
Each spring the cherry trees blooming around the Tidal Basin
draw thousands of tourists and local residents alike.

Japanese cherry trees are given to the United States as a goodwill gesture from the royal family are destroyed when found to be infected with insects and disease.
A second shipment of trees is planted at Washington, D.C., where they will blossom each spring to make the Tidal Basin a perennial tourist attraction.
These are non-fruiting trees.
