New Hampshire's Mount Washington,
at 6,288 feet, is the highest point in the northeastern United States.
It is strangely subject to some of the most extreme weather
conditions on the continent- for example, hurricane force winds
(75 mph or more) occur every third day there on the average.
The Mount Washington Observatory was created to record weather
and conduct related research, provide rescue services,
and offer educational information to the public.

New Hampshire
A state of the northeast United States
between Vermont and Maine.
It was admitted as one of the original Thirteen Colonies in 1788.
First explored in 1603, it was settled by colonists from Massachusetts
during the 1620's and 1630's and became a separate colony in 1741.
New Hampshire was the first colony to declare its independence from
Great Britain and the first to establish its own government (January 1776).
Concord is the capital and Manchester the largest city.
